Margriet Itz
I have traveled through most of Europe, and understand how to plan itineraries that make sense logistically. I also can arrange exclusive experiences such as after-hours museum tours and reservations at the most coveted Michelin-starred restaurants.
The right private guide can greatly enhance a trip, so if you have a special interest such as architecture, art or shopping, I can find an expert to guide you. Do you want to explore the Amalfi Coast or the French Riviera in a private yacht? I can arrange it. Would you like a luxury car with an English-speaking driver/guide to explore Tuscany or Provence? Can do. And if you are looking for insight into local culture or hidden gems, I can help.
I have lived in the Netherlands and still have relatives there, so it is a country I know well. In the Netherlands, and throughout Europe, I can show you the best ways to see the well-known sites and suggest off-the-beaten-track places that are favorites with locals and those in the know.
For people visiting Holland, Amsterdam is usually the first, and sometimes, the only stop. Most visitors are drawn to its famous museums such as Anne Frank House, Van Gogh Museum and the Rijksmuseum and its beautiful canals. But I also encourage everyone to simply wander and discover its neighborhoods. People are friendly and speak English—often better than we do—and it is easy to slip into the easy-going spirit of the city.
Far less known, and equally historic and fascinating is Maastricht. My Dutch friends say is underrated: I think it is just under-promoted. It is the area my family is from, and three countries—Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands—come together there. The city dates back to Roman times and has lovely squares, a fortress, centuries-old underground tunnels used in World War II, and perhaps best of all, lively terrace cafes and restaurants.
Often, clients turn to me to do something new and different. One couple has been going to Paris several times a year to visit their daughter who is studying there. Each time they go, they look for something different to do. I have sent them to Provence to go antiquing and arranged for them to stay in a historic chateau near Versailles, where they went hot-air ballooning.
Many people have very specific interests. I recently planned a ten-day tour for a family to Italy. They visited Rome, Florence, Venice, and Cinque Terre, but for them, the highlight was a private behind-the-scenes tour and a simulated racecar experience at the Ferrari Factory and Museum.
If you are looking for inspiration or logistical help in planning your next trip to Europe, please do not hesitate to call on me.
