Every vacation is special, but a honeymoon is something couples look back on and talk to their friends about for the rest of their lives. Ironically, at the same time that a couple is planning their honeymoon, they are often in the throes of wedding planning. That’s why it is important to have a good travel agent who pays attention, not only to the details of arranging your trip, but to the more important question of what type of honeymoon best suits you as a couple.
Since most of my clients want to unwind at a beach after the excitement of the wedding, I stay up-to-date by taking advanced travel agent training courses for Secrets, Sandals and other important destinations. These trainings are often onsite, where I have the chance to meet with general managers from many resorts and make connections that will benefit my clients who visit those resorts.
I also stay current on Hawaii and Mexico—both filled with wonderful options for honeymooners, destination weddings, romantic getaways and family vacations and reunions.
For example, I recently sent a very adventurous and relatively affluent couple to Hawaii for their honeymoon. They wanted a wonderful and unforgettable honeymoon and were eager to splurge on exciting adventures. I based them at the Fairmont Kea Lani on Maui, which just completed a $70 million renovation and offers easy access to all Maui has to offer. Plus on-site, guests have access to gear for snorkeling, diving, sailing and kayaking, along with GoPro cameras for rent. Its villas are spectacular, with floor-to-ceiling windows and tropical decor with local artwork. Plus, as a Protravel agent, I was able to get them an upgraded room with a stunning view of the Pacific, daily buffet breakfast and $100 credit towards spa services.
Best of all, Maui is the island for adventure. I arranged a doors-off helicopter ride, a horseback trek, and lots more and I arranged some nice surprises—like their room upgrade. They actually called me from their honeymoon to thank me!
