I have been a luxury travel advisor for more than 30 years but I have been a book lover my whole life. Travel and books are my two passions and I thoroughly enjoy creating bespoke literary journeys throughout the USA and Europe. I was so passionate about books and authors that I began reviewing books for publishers and authors in 2011. I began my literary blog at that time. I often finds myself transported to the settings of the books I read, imagining the villages, landscapes, and historic streets where the stories unfold. I knew there were others, like me, who wanted to get into the settings of books. Historical fiction is a favorite genre, I enjoy reading the classics, mysteries and memoir. There are so many places for book lovers to immerse themselves in the worlds of beloved authors, poets, and literary masterpieces to life by following in the footsteps of Shakespeare in England and James Joyce in Ireland to exploring the settings of Louisa May Alcott, Pat Conroy, Jane Austen, Agatha Christie, and the Brontë sisters. My literary journeys visit author's birthplaces, settings of their books, beautiful libraries both public and private, the best book stores around the world, and can include special experiences like paper making, book binding, and all sorts of things related to the art of reading. Every itinerary is thoughtfully tailored to each traveler's literary interests, creating unforgettable experiences that inspire long after the final chapter.

Italy Trip

Mother/Daughter Trip
I was introduced to Barbara from a friend of mine and when I invited my mom on a trip to Italy I quickly realized I had no idea where to start planning. That’s when I called Barbara. Barbara listened carefully to what our travel goals were and shortly after provided the most thoughtfully curated options. After reading one of the itineraries we knew that was it! It ticked all the boxes. Barbara’s network around the globe is what made our trip so special. A luxurious palazzo with the most caring owners and carefully planned activities that immersed us in the culture. Everything was taken care of from a detailed itinerary including flights, car rental, accommodations etc! I will absolutely be coordinating future trips with Barbara. Fourth trip with Barbara
Barbara is fabulous to work with. She takes the time to understand what her clients want to do, and tailors each trip to their needs, rather than trying to jam them into a "one size fits all" trip itinerary. She is very knowledgeable so many different parts of the world, and can offer suggestions beyond what the trips books might suggest to really enhance one's experience. Wouldn't ever consider working with anyone else.

Barbara has planned several trips for us— Napa, Charleston, Danube Cruise (plus Budapest and Prague), and this summer a 3 country (3 city) 2 week Europe trip! Over the years, she has gotten to know us and custom tailors our trips to our personal preferences— generally including, cooking classes, foodie restaurants, food tours and tastings… and then Wine! The excursions are private and personalized and help us get a full cultural experience! The best part is— she does all the work! She finds the options and the best providers and then she lines everything up! From drivers, to guides, to whatever it takes! The app with the full itinerary is awesome! Best Travel Agent out there! From start to finish every detail was managed with care!
Barbara has helped us cruise the mediterranean several times with extended stays in both Portugal and France. She found upgrades and extra perks along the way that really made each trip spectacular. She even rearranged our flights to minimize transfers and travel time. Looking forward to our next adventure in 2026. I would not dream of booking a trip without her knowledge and expertise. There was never a question that she did not have the answer to or a suggestion to enhance our travels. She absolutely goes above and beyond the call of duty in every possible way.

The best trip of our lives!
We'd never worked with a travel agent before. Now we'll never plan a trip without one. Barbara Khan guided us through the process of planning a 12 day cruise with a stay added on in Rome and Istanbul at the beginning and end. Her familiarity with the cruise line and the cities involved was excellent. She also set up private transportation for us in the cities and everything she planned worked perfectly. An amazing experience
We recently returned from Spain and Portugal and we have to say what an amazing experience we had in large part because of Barbara and all her hard work. From hotels, drivers, tours ( I think she booked us for nine but it might have been ten) to tour guides who were all incredibly knowledgeable, to restaurant reservations and restaurant suggestions every detail was perfect! We did have one hiccup on the last day when we arrived at the Lisbon Airport to find our flights back home were cancelled. We called Barbara and in 20 minutes she had us booked on a direct Air Portugal flight which would actually get us to Boston three hours earlier than we expected! We had paid for Premium Economy on our original flights but Air Portugal only had economy seats left which was fine with us! When we returned home we received a phone call from Barbara telling us we would be getting a refund on parts of our flights which was a very nice surprise. I have to say, I would never take another international flight without using Barbara!! If we had to arrange reservations for returning it would have been a very frustrating experience!! We can’t thank her enough for her professionalism and attention to detail!!! Thank you so much!!!

The most stress free way to travel!
Barbara made our trip (first time outside of the usa together) so chill and stress free. We didnt have to worry about anything at all, not the transportation, nor reservation for honeymoon at restaurants etc! Other travel agents kind of go silent and are hard to reach after you pay them and you go on the trip but Barbara reached out constantly to make sure everything including transportation was going smoothly!

Amanda and Cody Explore Andalusia
The trip was absolutely amazing. This was our 3rd time booking a trip with Barbara and it was perfect once again. We emailed Barbara earlier in the year and started planning the trip over the last few months. She is easy to communicate with and quick to respond. We provided the cities we wanted to visit and sites we wanted to see and Barbara curated the perfect trip for us. She provided recommendations for our trip that we really appreciated. We loved utilizing the Trip App for our travel plans and were able to communicate directly with her if we had an questions during our trip. The hotels she booked were spectacular and centrally located to everything. We travelled from America to Granada, then Cordoba, and lastly Sevilla with no issues at all. AMA Sintra : the service was excellent, the ship was clean and our room attendant was very pleasant and attentive to our needs but the meals were unpalatable especially at dinner time. I ordered hamburger for dinner one time because the menu was bland.
Overall, I will not recommend AMA Sintra.

River cruise on Danube to Budapest and Vienna with
This was my first river cruise so I wasn’t sure what to expect. Uniworld was a lovely company to go with. There were Jewish Heritage options available almost every day for an excursion. Barbara was very helpful in navigating the whole process and of course booking flights with stopovers from Boston to Central European destinations. She’s always responsive and patient with my many questions. And she has a delightful and engaging personality!

Barb is always bringing travel options and value!
While not all of us can live in Rome all summer, we did book a cruise out of Miami with Barb. We did a little research, called Barb who made some suggestions, and viola! We are booked and didn't have to talk to a call center, plus Barb found us a discount/ credit. Big fun is scheduled and I don't feel exhausted being browbeaten online or on the phone for 1 1/2 hours ala DYI travel. Just call Barb!

Responsive, reliable, available
Barbara has partly or completely organized several trips for my wife and me. These have included some non-standard (i.e., not Europe) locations: Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Tunisia, Algeria, Chile, Mongolia, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan. Her lodging arrangements are consistently superb (often with free upgrades) and she is able to locate our desired flights and best price. We are challenging travelers in that we insist on specifying our preferred activities rather than engaging in the standard tours and she is able to work with that. She has extensive and broad contacts in the Travel World and has been able to match us to the right excursion companies. Finally, is almost perpetually accessible.

Landscapes, History and Culinary Delights!
This was our first trip to Europe and what a trip it was thanks in large part to Barbara. Barbara helped us plan down to the the littlest detail, planes - trains - automobiles and cruise ship. Made a last-minute dream trip come true!
When my daughter and I were suddenly inspired to go visit cousins in two different locales in England, we turned to Barbara, and she made the whole experience as easy and straightforward as possible. Our trip was SO special!
We had a wonderful trip, tailored to our interests. Barbara listened well in planning our itinerary. When issues arose and it looked like we were going to be stuck on a small island due to weather problems, Barbara and her team were already making contingency plans by the time our plane landed! So reassuring! It really was the best vacation we have had in years. Barbara was also helpful and patient with our post-COVID, out-of-practice questions like "What travel plug converter do I need?" Just wonderful.
